About the website

Objective

The Jan Montyn website provides Jan Montyn himself with a means to communicate to the world his message of “Hell and Paradise on Earth”, showing to visitors the dark and beautiful sides of the world through his life, his stories and his wonderful art works. The art works as presented on the website will be a subset of art works that can be found in museums, galleries and private collections all over the world. Links to museums and galleries will help any reader to locate Jan Montyn's art works. Links to private collections will be added to the website as well, if allowed by a private collector. See galleries and the art.

The Jan Montyn website provides Jan Montyn's community with a central place to read about Jan Montyn from different perspectives, to find out the latest news, including Jan Montyn's latest art works, and to share information with other visitors and/or members. The hope of the website initiators is that the Jan Montyn website is intensively used by all community members to share and provide information that can be added to the content of the website.

Background

The year 2009 celebrates Jan Montyn's 85th birthday. As a present to Jan Montyn, the Jan Montyn website was initiated. But how do you set up a Jan Montyn website if you know that it will take a lifetime to document 85 years Jan Montyn in all its facets? Basically there are two options: either you build a complete as possible website or you set up an initial website and continue to build it into the future. The choice of the website initiators was the latter. The Jan Montyn website therefore, is a website that currently incorporates the information that was available and could reasonably be processed during the available time period. Other information will be incorporated as and when available and processed. The website initiators see three advantages of this approach. The first is that the website can be launched within a reasonable timeframe. The second is that early feedback will be received, which will be used to extend the website in a focused manner, in line with the desires of the visitors. The third advantage is that this approach allows interested parties and individuals to participate in building further content. It will result in the website being a truly shared website, which is the ultimate desire of the website initiators

Approval and support Jan Montyn, 2004

The Jan Montyn website - first version - was launched on September 17, 2004 and has been stabilized since. While maintenance is done by Align, J-Com Communication & Design has continued working on the next versions of the website. This paragraph discusses version IV of the website which was launched in November 2009, in celebration of Jan Montyn's 85th birthday.

The main theme of 2009 - version IV is “Celebrate new Look & Feel, Celebrate Jan Montyn”. The central idea is that the new Look & Feel is to be combined with an extensive database [wich is now under construction] of Jan Montyn artworks adding the following features to the website:
•  Externally updateable information : initiators can update elements of the website themselves, mainly through the Montyn Art Database [wich is now under construction]. Visitors will have more of what they actually expect; view Jan Montyn's art!
•  Blog area : visitors can register themselves as a member, can update their member information and will be provided access to the Webboard (a message board), eCard area and other future priviliges through Montyn Online.
•  Community Area through Montyn Online, which will ideally include:
•  eCards
•  Trade environment (buy and sell)
•  Message board
•  Chat room(s)
