Hitler seized power in Germany in early 1933. His "Third Reich" would last till the end of World War II in 1945.

[ 1939 ] World War II, formal beginning
On September 1st 1939, Germany raids Poland and trigger the formal beginning of World War II. During World War II approximately 40 million people die, comprising of both military and civilians. The estimated total number of deaths in Poland during World War II is 6 million; around 4,5 million Germans will die.

[ 1940 ] World War II, raid of the Netherlands
Same as was done during World War I, The Netherlands sought to remain neutral at the start of World War II. While many of their neighbors fell to the Germans during World War I, the Netherlands remained outside of the war. In reply to the Dutch stand, Hitler made a promise of nonaggression to the Netherlands. Despite this promise, on May 8th Germany raids the Netherlands.

[ 1940 ] World War II, capitulation of the Netherlands
On May 14th Queen Wilhelmina signs the capitulation of the Netherlands. Despite the signing, on May 15th the Germans heavily bomb Rotterdam. The province Zeeland only surrenders on May 17th, after heavy bombing of the city Middelburg. After the complete capitulation Hitler appoints the Austrian Seyss-Inquart as Reich Commissioner to govern The Netherlands.
