1976 Interview NRC Max van Rooy, NRC Handelsblad

In an interview with Max van Rooy of the Dutch newspaper NRC, to a question whether during his travelling his objective was to leave as quickly as possible, Jan Montyn replied: “The objective of my stay is to continue what has happened, to continue what has already begun, within and with myself and with other people. I observe quickly and travel fast, yet sometimes I stand motionless on one spot. Like in a museum. When I visit to Stedelijk Museum, I stand motionless in front of one painting, which is Chagall's synagogue painting. That is my silence”.
